Joseph Schmitt (politician)

Joseph Schmitt (born April 6, 1882 in Mainz ; † July 23, 1967 there ) was a German politician of the CDU and a member of the German Bundestag .

Joseph Schmitt, a lawyer by profession, was a member of the Center Party of Hesse from 1910 to 1933 . He was mayor, city councilor and member of the provincial committee of Rheinhessen . From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of the Constitutional Court of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1946 he joined the CDU and became district chairman of Rheinhessen .

From 1949 to 1953 he was a member of the first German Bundestag, into which he was elected for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) as a direct candidate for the Mainz constituency.
