Joseph Simon Volmar
Joseph Simon Volmar (born October 26, 1796 in Bern , † October 6, 1865 ibid) was a Swiss painter, sculptor , lithographer and art teacher.
From 1814 he studied in Paris with Horace Vernet , Théodore Géricault and David d'Angers . After working as an animal painter in France , he was elected to teach at the Bern art school in 1836. Here he designed a monument for Rudolf von Erlach , which was inaugurated in 1849 after many political disputes, and was awarded an honorary doctorate for this by the University of Bern . He also created a monument for Jean Baptiste Girard in Freiburg im Üechtland . It was ordered by the local government in 1850, was inaugurated ten years later and then supplemented with reliefs by Raphael Christians .
