Joseph Võ Đức Minh

Joseph Võ Đức Minh (born September 10, 1944 in My Duc , Lệ Thủy , Binh Province) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop in the diocese of Nha Trang in Vietnam . His name combines western naming tradition ( Joseph as first name before the family name ) with Vietnamese ( Đức Minh as a personal name is behind the family name).

Life

Joseph Võ Đức Minh attended the minor seminary in Saigon (1956-1965), began studying philosophy at the major seminary in Saigon (1965-1966) and completed his priestly training in Freiburg im Üechtland in Switzerland (1966-1971) with a licentiate in theology .

He was ordained a priest on April 24, 1971 and was incardinated in the Diocese of Da Lat . After his ordination he was sent to Rome to study at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (1971–1974), where he also obtained a licentiate.

After his return home in May 1974 he held the following offices: Professor of Biblical Studies at the Min Hoa Major Seminary in Đà Lạt , the St. Joseph Major Seminary in Hochiminh-Ville and the Stella Maris Major Seminary in Nha Trang . He held Bible courses for various religious communities in the country and was secretary to his bishop (1975-1991). Since 1991 he has been pastor in Da Lat Cathedral and since 1999 vicar general . He is a member of the commission for the continuous formation of the clergy in Đà Lạt.

On November 8, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as coadjutor bishop in the diocese of Nha Trang in Vietnam . He was ordained bishop on December 15, 2005 by Paul Nguyên Van Hòa , Bishop of Nha Trang with the assistance of Pierre Nguyễn Văn Nhơn , Bishop of Đà Lạt , and Paul Bùi Van Ðoc , Bishop of Mỹ Tho . On December 4, 2009, he succeeded the outgoing Bishop Paul Nguyên Van Hòa.
