Joseph Wiel (born March 12, 1828 in Bonndorf in the Black Forest ; † March 5, 1881 ) was a German doctor who specialized in gastric diseases.

Life

Joseph Wiel came to study medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg relatively late after changing fates and positions , which he completed in 1852/53 by passing the state exams. He then settled in his hometown as a doctor and married Maria Agatha Weber there on October 26, 1854. In the following years he changed his place of residence several times and was successively a community doctor in Möhringen , hospital doctor in Meersburg , court assistant doctor in Engen and spa doctor in Langenbrücken . He then interrupted his practical activity entirely to embark on a trip to America, from which he returned penniless. From 1865 to 1867 he took on a position as a district doctor in Rosenfeld , Württemberg , and then returned to his hometown after a temporary practice in Constance. There he practiced, among other things, as a “spa doctor” in the newly built pension and bathing establishment “Steinamühle” and dedicated himself to the special treatment of stomach ailments. From July 1875 the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was one of his patients there for four weeks . Wiel published a number of large and small papers about his experiences and the dietary principles he followed. In the last years of his life, Wiel practiced in Zurich and was also a lecturer at the Polytechnic there .

In 1881 Wiel transferred to F. Ineichen, the co-owner of the Eglisau sanatorium , the right to sell food under the Dr. Wiel for sale as well as the authorship of several of his writings.

In 1872 he worked together with his friend Conrad Meyer-Ahrens on the little travel guide: Bonndorf und Steinamühle , which was published in 1873 by the Binder printer in Bonndorf.
