The Raiffeisen-Volksbank Ries eG is a cooperative bank in the district of Donau-Ries ( Bavaria ).
history
Raiffeisen-Volksbank Ries is based on many small Rieser village cooperatives . Most of these were founded in the second half of the 19th century. The oldest loan associations were founded in Alerheim (1883), Löpsingen (1884) and Hohenaltheim , Nähermemmingen and Bühl (1885). However, the first cooperative in today's business area of RVB Ries eG was established in Nördlingen in 1874 .
The idea to found a bank came from Ernst Rohmer . From 1852 he was manager of the CH Beck'schen bookstore in Nördlingen. As a bookseller, journalist and publisher, he probably heard and read about the activities of Schulze-Delitzsch and Raiffeisen at an early age .
On March 4, 1874, under his leadership, the Nördlingen commercial bank was founded in the Sixensaal. The minutes of the meeting said: “The mutual liability of the members with all their assets is what establishes the security of the association.” Every member had a great interest in the cooperative doing well, because everyone was liable with their assets. For the first time in Ries, the basic principles of Raiffeisen - self-help, self-administration and personal responsibility - were implemented.
Often it was pastors who suggested the founding of loan associations in the Rieser villages. They knew the plight of the rural population and saw the advantage of organizing themselves in the village and helping themselves, as Raiffeisen propagated. Each member had one vote in the association, major purchases were made together, seeds and fertilizers were bought together at lower prices. The association granted loans for investments by individual members and administered itself. And often took over the spiritual responsibility as board members and supervisory boards. In many places the village teachers were also involved as club calculators - not least to supplement their small salary.
In the first half of the 20th century, the Dorfraiffeisenkassen also felt the effects of the two world wars and inflation. Club life was often idle for many years. In all cases, however, the cooperative members reorganized themselves after difficult phases and were often the asset in the village community. Agricultural equipment such as Kleereiber or seed cleaning systems were purchased together. New warehouses for grain, seeds and fertilizers were built in order to better organize the goods business. Often an office was also set up for the computer, which could then be spoken at fixed opening times. Previously, most of the business was done on the computer at home.
In the 1960s, many Raiffeisenkassen decided to merge into larger units. In 1966, the Raiffeisenkasse Bühl and the Raiffeisenkasse Wörnitzostheim merged with the Raiffeisenkasse Alerheim. Kleinsorheim merged with Möttingen in 1965, and Pfäfflingen and Löpsingen in 1968 . Stronger and more capable units emerged.
With the introduction of the four-eyes principle, a full-time managing director had to be legally employed. This requirement in turn prompted many small cash registers to join forces and appoint a full-time executive.
Today's Raiffeisen-Volksbank Ries emerged from the merger of Raiffeisenbank Nördlingen with Volksbank Nördlingen in 1990. Raiffeisenbank Oettingen was added in 1998, Raiffeisenbank Möttingen in 2002 and Raiffeisenbank Oberes Kesseltal in 2003.
