Joseph von Blumenthal

Joseph von Blumenthal (born November 1, 1782 in Brussels ; † May 9, 1850 in Vienna ) was an Austrian violinist , violist and composer .

Life

Blumenthal studied in Prague with Abbé Vogler , who took him to Vienna in 1803 and helped him to a position as violist, violinist and composer in the orchestra of the Theater an der Wieden . From 1842 to 1844 Blumenthal was choirmaster at the Vienna Piarist Church . He also gave lectures in harmony in his private apartment .

Blumenthal's younger brothers Casimir and Leopold were also musicians and students of Abbé Vogler.
