Josephine of Baden

Josephine Friederike Louise von Baden (born October 21, 1813 in Mannheim ; † June 19, 1900 in Sigmaringen ) was a princess of Baden.

Josephine was a daughter of Grand Duke Karl Ludwig Friedrich von Baden and his wife Stéphanie Louise de Beauharnais , Countess von Beauharnais and adopted daughter of Napoleon I.

After the death of her father in 1818, Sigmund von Gemmingen-Hornberg zu Treschklingen took over the guardianship of her and her sisters Luise and Marie. She married Prince Karl Anton von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen , son of Prince Karl von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and Princess Antoinette Murat , on October 31, 1834. Baptized and raised a Protestant, she only converted to Catholicism 12 years after her marriage (1846). In 1884 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the presence of the emperor ; Karl Anton died in 1885.

Josephine died in 1900 at the age of 86.
