Josetxo Romero Urtasun , Josetxo for short (born February 25, 1977 in Pamplona , Spain ) is a former Spanish football player .

Player career

Josetxo, like many other CA Osasuna players, comes from his own youth. As early as the 1995/1996 season when Osasuna played in the Segunda División , Josetxo made his debut for the first team when he was just 18 years old. Nevertheless, from 1995 to 1997 he was otherwise almost only used for Osasuna B. In the second half of the 1996/1997 season he again made the leap into the first team and this time he came on some missions.

In the following three seasons Josetxo proved to be a useful supplementary player as a “part-time worker” with slightly more than a third of the season's games. For the 1999/2000 season he was loaned to the league rivals SD Eibar to get more game practice there, but this failed. With the Basques he came to just seven missions in the Segunda División . In the promotion season of the first team, he was demoted to Osasuna B after his return from Eibar .

However, he did not give up and has been a successful defender in the first division at CA Osasuna since 2001 . In the first few years he played with his team to stay in class. In the 2004/05 season he reached the cup final , but lost to Betis Sevilla . Nevertheless, he qualified with his team for the UEFA Cup , but was eliminated in the first round. The 2005/06 season he was able to end with Osasuna in fourth place, which meant participation in qualifying for the Champions League . His team lost and Josetxo played again in the UEFA Cup , where he was only eliminated in the semi-finals against FC Sevilla . In the following years he remained a regular player, but had to take frequent breaks due to injuries. His club could not build on the success and played again to stay in the league. In the 2010/11 season he lost his regular seat and mostly found himself on the bench.

Josetxo left Osasuna in the summer of 2011 and moved to SD Huesca in the Segunda División. There he ended his career a year later.
