Josephine "Josie" Ho Chiu Yi ( Chinese  何超儀 * 26. December 1974 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese - Canadian actress and singer , in Asia especially for their unconventional film roles and as the daughter of Macau -Casino-millionaire Stanley Ho announced is.

biography

Ho was born on December 26, 1974 in Hong Kong, the daughter of Stanley Ho and his second wife, King-Ying Nam. She has four siblings, which include Pansy Ho and Lawrence Ho , and twelve half-siblings. At the age of 13, her parents sent her to a Canadian boarding school, Ridley College in St. Catharines , Ontario . After graduating from school, she decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, contrary to her father's wishes. First, she went to Taiwan for some time to work as a singer and learn Mandarin . She later returned to Hong Kong when she received an offer for a film role and was able to sign a recording deal there. Since then she has been working as an actress and musician in Hong Kong. In 2003 she married Conroy Chan , the singer of the band Alive .

Career as an actress

Ho received her first film role in 1994 as a volleyball player in the Hong Kong sports drama Victory, about a volleyball team. The role had been introduced to her by her former high school volleyball coach when the film studio was looking for actors who could also convince the physical aspects of the role. Ho had a cameo role in Chinese Box in 1997 and can be seen there in a scene with Gong Li and Jeremy Irons . In 1999, she played a terrorist in the action film Purple Storm who is willing to sacrifice her husband and children for her political ends. For this role she received a Golden Horse nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Career as a musician

Ho recorded three Cantopop albums at the beginning of her career , but then she canceled her record deal because she was dissatisfied with the strict guidelines of her record company and wanted to gain greater control over her musical work. Since then she has recorded several rock albums and performs regularly with her own band as Josie Ho & The Uni Boys .
