Jodocus Badius
Jodocus Badius (* 1462 in Ghent , † 1535 in Paris ) was a Flemish printer and humanist . He is often referred to by the nickname Ascensius after the place Asse .
Life
Badius studied in Ferrara and taught the Latin and Greek languages in Lyon , where he published an edition of Terenz in 1493. In 1499 Badius moved to Paris, where he opened his printing house in 1503, the emblem of which - the interior of a printing workshop - became famous. Badius exerted a great influence on the development of the French publishing industry. He edited many early works by Erasmus von Rotterdam and Guillaume Budé .
Robert Estienne was Badius' son-in-law.
