Johannes Cincinnius

Johannes Cincinnius (* around 1485 in Lippstadt as Johannes Kruyshaer; † March 9, 1555 in Essen-Werden ) was a Westphalian humanist .

Life

John Cincinnius attended the High School Paulinum in Münster , studied in Cologne and was 1505 Präbendar and priests in the imperial abbey of Werden . He also taught Latin , devoted himself to astronomy and geometry. Among other things, he wrote a biography of Saint Liudger .

He owned a library of 157 books, which initially went to the library of Werden Abbey. 153 are still available at various locations. A selection of the 200 titles available in the Düsseldorf University and State Library according to their information has been digitized. Through his mediation, the library of Gisbert Longolius may also have come to Werden through purchase under Abbot Hermann von Holten .
