In 1612 Jost Hänzberger was the inspector (calibration master) for the state of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. In 1616 he worked as a Kirchhöri - master builder and administrator of the poor people's sack in Herisau. In 1617 he was the representative of the state of Appenzell Ausserrhoden for the purchase of grain stocks . In 1620 and again from 1623 to 1630 he served as governor. Even as governor he was able to push through the reform of the mortgage system from 1629 to 1630 in the so-called schilling money trade against considerable resistance . This paved the way for him to the Landammannamt. The date of his death is unclear. He probably died of the plague in 1635 .
