The journal was originally owned by the American Physical Society and was known as Physics for the first seven issues . In January 1937, became the property of the American Institute of Physics on, in line with the efforts of the American Physical Society to improve the position of physics as a profession ( in line with the efforts of the American Physical Society to enhance the standing of physics as a profession ).
