Jozef Karol Hell
Jozef Karol Hell (also Joseph Karl Höll; born May 15, 1713 in Schemnitz ; † March 11, 1789 ibid) was a mining engineer and invented a new water pump that worked with air pressure generated by water pressure. The pump was tested for the first time on March 23, 1753 . In addition, the Tajchy reservoir system built around his hometown goes back to his suggestion, which served to supply water to the place not supplied by running waters.
His father, Matej Kornel Hell, was the chief machine master and pioneer of Hungarian mine mechanization. His brother was the astronomer Maximilian Hell (1720–1792). Jozef studied mechanics and hydraulics under Samuel Mikovíny at the Schemnitz Mining Academy until 1737 .
