Juan Antonio Martínez Camino SJ (born January 9, 1953 in Santa Cruz de Marcenado , Siero , Spain ) is a Spanish Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Madrid .

Life

Juan Antonio Martínez Camino joined the religious community of Jesuits and was ordained a priest on May 24, 1980 . It was in 1990 at the Theological Philosophy University Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main in the dogmatists Erhard Kunz with a thesis on natural theology at Wolfhart Pannenberg and Eberhard Jüngel doctorate . Until 2001 he was a professor at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid .

From 1993 to 2001 he was also director of the secretariat for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Spanish Bishops' Conference . In 1997 he was elected to the International Academy for Religious Studies in Brussels. Pope John Paul II appointed him advisor to the European Synod of Bishops in 1999 . Since 2003 he has been Secretary General of the Spanish Bishops' Conference.

On November 17, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Bigastro and ordered him auxiliary bishop in the archdiocese of Madrid. He was ordained episcopal on January 19th of the following year by the Archbishop of Madrid, Antonio María Cardinal Rouco Varela ; Co-consecrators were the two auxiliary bishops in Madrid, Fidel Herráez Vegas and César Augusto Franco Martínez .
