Juan Manuel Frutos

Juan Manuel Frutos Escurra (born June 12, 1879 in Asunción ; † April 15, 1960 ibid) was a Paraguayan journalist , judge and politician of the Partido Colorado , who was temporarily president of Paraguay in 1948 .

Life

Frutos, nephew of President Juan Antonio Escurra , who ruled from 1902 to 1904 , began studying science and literature at the Colegio Nacional de la Capital Gral in 1895 . Bernardino Caballero , which he graduated in 1901. He then continued a postgraduate study of law and social sciences at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA) and obtained a doctorate in 1912 with the dissertation Del interdicto de retener la posesión . He also worked in the public sector and as a journalist wrote articles for newspapers and magazines such as ¡Luchad! , General Caballero , El Sufragio and El Colegiado .

After the death of Juan León Mallorquín, Frutos succeeded him as President of the Supreme Court (Corte Suprema de Justicia de Paraguay) on July 12, 1947, and held this office until his resignation in November 1949. After the previous President Higinio Morínigo on 3. June 1948 was forced to resign, he temporarily took over the office of President of Paraguay as his successor . On August 15, 1948, he handed this over to Juan Natalicio González .

The Doctor Juan Manuel Frutos District in the Caaguazú Department along Ruta 7 was named in his honor. His son of the same name, Juan Manuel Frutos, was director of the Instituto de Bienestar Rural, founded in 1963, and was jointly responsible for land reforms in Paraguay during the dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner .
