Juan Natalicio González

Juan Natalicio González Paredes (born September 8, 1897 in Villarrica , Guairá Department , † December 16, 1966 in Mexico City ) was a Paraguayan writer , diplomat and politician of the Partido Colorado , who was President of Paraguay between 1948 and 1949 . In addition to his political career, he has written several historical books as well as volumes of poetry in Guarani and Spanish .

Life

González began studying at the Colegio Nacional de Asunción after attending school in 1912 and worked as a journalist for the daily El Liberal after graduating in 1915 . Shortly afterwards he joined the Partido Colorado and became a reporter for the party newspaper General Caballero , where he worked with personalities such as Juan Manuel Frutos , Arsenio López Decoud , Manuel Domínguez and Fulgencio R. Moreno . In 1916 he moved to the newspaper Fígaro and then in 1917 to the daily newspaper Patria , of which he became editor-in-chief in 1919. In 1920 he went to Buenos Aires and in 1923 to Paris , where he worked for publishers. In 1927 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies (Cámara de Diputados) for the Partido Colorado , of which he was a member until 1929. He then lived with his wife Lydia Frutos for a long time in Europe.

After the end of the Second World War , González returned to Paraguay and shortly thereafter was envoy to Uruguay between 1945 and 1946 . After the previous President Higinio Morínigo was forced to resign on June 3, 1948, he took over the office of President of Paraguay on August 15, 1948 as the successor to the temporarily ruling President Juan Manuel Frutos . On January 30, 1949, he was deposed in a coup by Defense Minister General Raimundo Rolón . 1956 President appointed him Alfredo Stroessner to Ambassador in Mexico . He remained in this diplomatic post for nine years until 1965 and died a year later in Mexico City .
