Raimundo Rolón Villasanti (born March 14, 1903 in Paraguarí , † December 17, 1981 in Asunción ) was a Paraguayan general and briefly President of Paraguay .

Life

After attending school, Rolón entered the military and was promoted to second lieutenant in the artillery in 1923 and to lieutenant in 1926 . In 1929 he was employed as a captain in Artillery Group 2 Capitán Roa , before being promoted to major in 1933 during the Chaco War from 1932 to 1935 . As a lieutenant colonel , he soon became head of the operations department of the General Staff . In 1939 he was promoted to colonel and finally to brigadier general in 1947 .

On June 13, 1948, he was appointed Minister of Defense by President Juan Manuel Frutos in his cabinet and held this office under Frutos' successor, Juan Natalicio González, until January 29, 1949.

On January 30, 1949, he was instrumental in the overthrow of President González and then took over the office of President. After only 28 days of presidency, Rolón himself was deposed in a coup on February 27, 1949 and replaced as president by Felipe Molas López , a former mayor of Asunción.

After assignments in civil administration, he was police chief of Asunción, ambassador to Brazil and director of customs and ports. He later became a member of the Senate .
