Juan Martínez (discus thrower)

Juan Martínez Brito (born May 17, 1958 in Guanabacoa , Havana ) is a former Cuban discus thrower .

He finished fourth at the Pan American Games in San Juan , and won bronze at the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games . In 1983 he was seventh at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki and won bronze at the Pan American Games in Caracas .

The following year, Cuba boycotted the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . In the alternate friendship competitions , Martínez came second.

In 1985, like two years earlier, he was runner-up in Central America and the Caribbean. In 1986 he won silver at the Central American and Caribbean Games. In 1991 he won bronze again at the Pan American Games in Havana and was eliminated from qualifying at the World Cup in Tokyo . At the Olympic Games in Barcelona he was sixth.

He set his personal best of 70.00 m on May 21, 1983 in Havana .

Juan Martínez is 1.86 m tall and weighed 122 kg when he was active.
