Juan Pérez de Pineda
Juan Pérez de Pineda (* around 1500 in Montilla ; † 1567 in Paris ) was a Spanish Protestant theologian and author .
Life
Juan Pérez de Pineda probably studied like many other Spanish Protestants , such as Juan Gil , at the University of Alcalá de Henares . What is certain is that he did a PhD , which suggests that he received a university education in the Kingdom of Spain. De Pineda later taught at the Casa de la Doctrina de los Niños in Seville . Since 1545 it was considered a center of the reforming Catholic Church .
Pérez de Pineda was closely related to Juan Gil, the Spanish Protestant who defended the return to the origins of the Gospel . To escape the Spanish Inquisition , Pérez de Pineda fled to Geneva after his friend Juan Gil was arrested in 1551. The translation of the Nuevo Testamento was printed in Geneva ; Francisco de Enzinas and Juan de Valdés helped him cope with this task . Julián Hernández († 1560) smuggled a large number of books of the Nuevo Testamento in wooden barrels to Spain between 1550 and 1559 .
In October 1558, Pérez de Pineda was added to the register of residents of the city of Geneva; Until then, several stays in Geneva have been guaranteed. In 1562 de Pineda left Geneva and went to Blois , where he stayed until March 19, 1563. A stay in Paris followed , which he left after a few months, and he stayed only briefly in Elizabethan England . He went to Juan Morillo in Frankfurt am Main , from there to Antwerp . During these years Pérez de Pineda made many trips in the service of the Reformed cause. As a result, he stayed in Frankfurt for two years, exercised his Calvinist work in the community and actively participated in the life of the city on the Main . In the spring of 1566 the Calvinists of Antwerp asked the Duchess of Ferrara, Renée de France , to allow him to travel to Antwerp to carry out his ministry as a Calvinist pastor .
