from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Juan de Ledesma (* 1713 in Segovia ; † 1781 ) was a Spanish violinist and composer of the pre-classical period .

Life

Juan de Ledesma was a violist in the Spanish court orchestra in Madrid , which in his time was dominated by Italian composers such as Farinelli , Domenico Scarlatti , Francesco Corselli and Luigi Boccherini , but also important Italian violinists such as Mauro D'Alay , Filippo Sabatini and Gaetano Brunetti , Francesco Landini and Giacomo Facco were active in the area around the court.

In 1986 Ledesma wrote manuscripts of four sonatas for violin and B. c. rediscovered. In these few surviving works he demonstrated his compositional skills and originality. The works originally came from the library of the 6th Count of Fernán Núñez, Don Carlos José Gutierrez de los Rìoz i Rohàn Chabot, Spanish ambassador to the French court, who himself was a passionate harpsichordist and composer. This volume contained 24 manuscripts of violin sonatas by eight different composers. Interestingly, the purchase price was noted on each sonata. With the exception of a sonata by Giuseppe Tartini , Ledesma's sonatas were significantly more expensive than the other works. These sonatas identify Ledesma as a composer who was clearly under Italian influence.
