Juan de la Rubia (* 1982 in La Vall d'Uixó , Castelló ) is a Spanish organist .

Life

Juan de la Rubia was born in La Vall d'Uixó , Castelló, and has performed in all the major venues in Europe in recent years, including the cathedrals of Barcelona , Madrid , León, San Sebastián and Cologne, and the Auditorio Nacional de Música of Madrid, in the Palau de la Música Catalana and in Auditorio Alfredo Kraus on Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . He is the organist of Gaudi's famous Sagrada Família cathedral in Barcelona and has been teaching at the Catalonia Music Academy since 2005. He made seven CD recordings as a soloist.

His broad repertoire ranges from ancient to contemporary music with a focus on the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach , his own improvisations, music from the Spanish Renaissance and the Baroque, the great organ works of the Romantic period by Liszt , Reubke , Wagner and Brahms (the 1st symphony of the latter he transferred to the organ himself). In April 2015 he plans to perform Handel's organ concerts with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra .

His father and Ricardo Pitarch laid the foundation of his musical training. He later studied piano, harpsichord and organ in Valencia, Barcelona, ​​Berlin and Toulouse. Among his teachers are Óscar Candendo, Wolfgang Seifen , Michel Bouvard and Montserrat Torrent . He took master classes with Daniel Roth , Bernhard Haas , Enrico Viccardi, Wolfgang Zerer, Olivier Latry and Ton Koopman .

In 2002 he won the Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales , in 2004 the Premi El Primer Palau and since 2012 he has been a member of the renowned Royal Academy of Arts Sant Jordi. De la Rubia also often works with colleagues from other disciplines, works as an actor and - improvising and interpreting - contributes music to films.
