Judit Csehák (born January 16, 1940 in Szekszárd , Tolna county ) is a doctor and former Hungarian politician of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) and the Hungarian Socialist Party MSZP (Magyar Szocialista Párt) , which among other things is Vice-Prime Minister and was Minister for several years. On June 23, 1987, after Valéria Benke , she was elected as the second woman to be a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until April 12, 1989. After the end of the People's Republic of Hungary, she was a member of parliament (Országgyűlés) for several years and between 2002 and 2003 Minister for Health, Social Affairs and Families in the government of Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy .

Life

University degree and union official

Judit Csehák, daughter of a shoemaker, began studying at the Budapest University of Medical Sciences (Budapesti Orvostudományi Egyetem) after attending school in Tolna , graduating in 1964 with a diploma. She then worked for a year as a medical assistant in the Tolna County hospital before she started working in a doctor's office in Fadd in 1965 . In 1967 she joined the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) and in 1973 became a member of the Szekszárd City Council and head of department at the Szekszárd Small Area Council .

In 1975 she moved to the Nursing Union (Szakszervezete Központi Vezetősége) as secretary of the central board , before becoming a secretary and member of the National Council of the SZOT (Szakszervezetek Országos Tanácsa) trade unions in 1978 .

On December 6, 1984 Csehák was vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers and was thus until December 6, 1987, Deputy Prime Minister György Lázár . She was also a member of the State Planning Commission from 1984 to 1988 and of the National Youth Commission between 1985 and 1986.

On March 25, 1989, she became a member of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of it until October 1989.

Vice-Prime Minister, Politburo Member and Minister

In the governments of the Prime Ministers Károly Grósz and Miklós Németh , Judit Csehák took over the office of Minister for Social Affairs and Health (Szociális és Egészségügyi Miniszter) between December 16 and May 23, 1990 . During this time, between January 1987 and July 1988, she was also Chair of the MSZMP Science Committee.

Judit Csehák was elected on June 23, 1987, after Valéria Benke, as the second woman to be a member of the Politburo of the MSZMP Central Committee and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until she resigned on April 12, 1989. She also became a member of the Economic and Social Committee of the MSZMP in December 1988.

After the dissolution of the MSZMP, she joined the Hungarian Socialist Party MSZP, which was founded on October 6, 1989 and was elected as its candidate in May 1990 for the first time as a Member of Parliament (Országgyűlés) , where she represented constituency 7 of Veszprém County until May 1998 . During this time, from October 1994 to March 1996, she held the position of Vice-Chair of the MSZP.

In April 2002 she was re-elected member of the MSZP's reserve list and was a member of this parliament until October 7, 2003.

On May 27, 2002, Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy appointed her minister for health, social affairs and the family in his government, of which she was a member until September 14, 2003.
