György Lázár

György Lázár [ ˈɟørɟ ˈlaːzaːr ] (born September 15, 1924 in Isaszeg , † October 2, 2014 , in Budapest ) was a Hungarian communist politician and prime minister .
Economist and Minister
In 1948 the economist became an employee and consultant in the State Planning Commission. In 1953 he rose to head of section and finally in 1958 to deputy chairman of the State Planning Commission. In 1970 he became Minister of Labor and at the same time a member of the Central Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (USAP), to which he had been a member since 1945. From 1973 to 1975 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Planning Commission.
Rise to prime minister and end of communism
On May 15, 1975 Lázár was appointed Prime Minister to succeed Jenő Fock . He held this office until his replacement by Károly Grósz on June 25, 1987. During his tenure he was also a member of the Politburo of the USAP Central Committee. After Károly Grósz replaced the Secretary General of the USAP Central Committee, János Kádár , he was Deputy Secretary General from 1987 to 1988.
From 1975 to 1988 Lázár was a member of the National Assembly.
