Judy Clarke

Judy Clarke (* 1952 in Asheville , North Carolina ) is an American lawyer who became known around the world as a criminal defense attorney in several spectacular cases.

Clarke grew up in Asheville , North Carolina. She is married to Professor Speedy Rice .

Clarke received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University in 1974 and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 1977 .

After her training, she worked as a criminal defense attorney for Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc. , where she was Executive Director from 1983 to 1991. She then moved to McKenne & Cuneo in San Diego as a partner , remained so from 1991 to 1992 and worked from 1992 to 2001 as Executive Director for the Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho in Spokane. She has been the National Capital Resource Counsel of the Federal Public and Community Defenders in San Diego since 2002 .

From 1996 to 1997, Clarke was President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers . Since 2006 she has taught several times at Washington and Lee University .
