In 1972 the inter-municipal association for youth music schools in Württembergisches Allgäu was founded, in which the cities of Wangen , Leutkirch , Isny and the municipalities of Amtzell , Argenbühl , Kißlegg, as well as the district of Ravensburg and the friends' association came together. The JMS now trains 2,100 students from over 60 professional teachers (as of 2009). It is one of the largest youth music schools in Baden-Württemberg and is of great cultural importance in the region due to more than 200 concerts and events every year.

The range of lessons begins with parent-child groups (from the age of 12 months) and continues with early musical education for children between the ages of 3 and 4. This can be followed by basic musical training over a period of one to two years. Instrumental and vocal lessons on all classical orchestral instruments take place in three levels (lower, intermediate and upper level) .
A department for folklore also enables training on the accordion , dulcimer , bagpipes and similar instruments. Additional subjects such as chamber music , ensembles , orchestras and choirs round off the range of courses.

On September 6, 1967, the founding meeting of the Wuerttemberg Allgäu youth music school association took place. It was not until 1972 that the inter-communal association of youth music schools in Württembergisches Allgäu was founded, in which the cities of Wangen , Leutkirch , Isny and the municipalities of Amtzell , Argenbühl , Kißlegg, as well as the district of Ravensburg and the friends' association came together.
