Julia Dordel

Julia Dordel (* 1975 in Cologne ) is a German film producer , screenwriter , actress and forest scientist .

biography

Dordel was born in Cologne as the daughter of the biologist and sports scientist Hans-Jürgen Dordel and the actress Sibylle Dordel . She grew up with two siblings in Pattensen and attended school in the Hanover region in order to study economics and forestry in Freiburg im Breisgau after successfully completing a banking apprenticeship . After completing her degree in forest sciences at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , Dordel went to Canada , where she received her master's degree in forest sciences with a focus on fire ecology from the University of British Columbia in 2005 . From 2005 to 2009 he did a doctorate in the field of forest ecology with study areas in Argentina . Several years as a private lecturer and first film productions followed. From 2011 to 2016 Dordel was also the director of the Communication of Science program TerreWEB , which was set up based on an idea by Dordel together with Suzanne Simard and Maja Krzic.

During her doctorate at the University of British Columbia (2005-2009) Dordel founded her first film production company. At the same time, she completed an acting training with a focus on film. Together with her colleague Anita Reimer, she produced the action web series Libelle - the Series , which was later expanded and expanded into the two-part feature film Mission NinetyTwo - Dragonfly and Mission NinetyTwo - Energy. Mission NinetyTwo - Energy won several film festivals, including in Melbourne and the USA. In the former Yugoslavia the film ran under Misja 92 on television. In Germany it is available on DVD and from Vimeo on Demand.

With her current film production company Dorcon Film , she produces feature and documentary film projects . She represents the interests of filmmakers as the first chairwoman of the Lower Saxony Film and Media Office , on the board of Women in Film & Television Germany and in the assembly of the Lower Saxony State Media Authority.

Dordel's documentary, Intelligent Trees , deals with communication between trees, based on the research of her doctoral mother, Suzanne Simard. The theses are illustrated using animations and forest excursions and explained through interviews with Simard and other scientists from the University of British Columbia, as well as with the German forester and author Peter Wohlleben . Simard's research also served as the basis for the scientific background of the eco-thriller Mission NinetyTwo . Smart Trees was a surprise hit in the French cinema scene and is also showing in Switzerland , Belgium and the Netherlands .

Sporting successes

Dordel was active in a variety of sports, including horse riding, field hockey , athletics and trampoline gymnastics . Dordel later devoted herself to triathlon and modern pentathlon , where she trained with the Canadian Olympic team under Philipp Waeffler . Since 2016 she starts in the master class of modern pentathlon.
