Julia Orlamünde

Julia Orlamünde (born June 18, 1964 ; † April 29, 2008 ) was a German ancient orientalist .

Life

Julia Orlamünde studied Hebrew studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1986 . The Central Institute for Ancient History and Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR created a special curriculum for her for the subject of Ancient Near Eastern Studies. In this context, Orlamünde dealt with the Akkadian , Aramaic and Ugaritic languages ​​as well as Ivrith , modern Greek and Turkish . From 1991 to 1998 she studied Ancient Near Eastern Studies , Near Eastern Archeology and Jewish Studies at the Free University of Berlin . Her master's thesis was entitled "The Hittite Oracle Protocol KUB 5.1+" . The approx. 440 line long text became known in 1922, due to the difficult grammar it was ignored. Orlamünde was the first scientist who succeeded in analyzing what was considered to be “confused” text. From April 1998 she worked in the editorial department of the journal Altorientalische Forschungen . From April 2001 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the Free University of Berlin.

Orlamünde was involved in the Assur project , in which the earlier excavations in this city are being re-examined or scientifically processed for the first time. She identified and described 241 obelisk fragments from Assyria, predominantly from obelisks of Assurnasirpal II and Shalmaneser III. from the 9th century BC With their work the knowledge of Neo-Assyrian obelisks was considerably expanded. She was able to identify three different types of obelisks for the first time. Your work on the orthostats was continued by Steven Lundström and also published.
