Julia Pierson

Julia A. Pierson (born July 21, 1959 in Orlando , Florida ) is an American civil servant. She was appointed director of the United States Secret Service on March 27, 2013 by US President Barack Obama .

Life

After graduating from the University of Central Florida , Pierson worked for the Orlando Police Department for three years . In 1983 she became "Special Agent" in the Secret Service's Miami office and from 1985 to 1988 she worked in its Orlando office. She became chief of staff in 2008, and became the agency's chief officer on March 27, 2013 when President Obama appointed her to succeed Mark J. Sullivan . Pierson's appointment was seen as a sign from Obama to fundamentally change the culture within the male-dominated Secret Service. On October 1, 2014, the Secret Service boss resigned in response to various security breaches.
