Julian Barlen (born February 24, 1980 in Bielefeld ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was from 2011 to 2016 and has been a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania again since May 2019 . In 2018 he was elected General Secretary of the SPD regional association .

Life and work

Barlen grew up in Mettingen. He is a trained hotel manager and ended the study of economics at the University of Rostock a degree in economics.

politics

From 2009 Barlen worked as a social policy advisor for the SPD parliamentary group in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. He is a co-founder of the Internet platform Endstation Rechts , which critically deals with right-wing extremism . In the 2011 election campaign he performed with the band Storchkraft, founded by Storch Heinar . In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2011 , he was elected to the state parliament for the first time. On October 1, 2011, he took over the management of the Endstation Rechts and Storch Heinar projects from Mathias Brodkorb .

From July 2017 to May 2018 Barlen held the office of deputy state chairman of the SPD Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . At the special party conference in Golchen on May 26, 2018, he was elected by 84.4 percent of the delegates as the first general secretary in the history of the state association.

Since May 2019 he has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Parliament again after the President of the State Parliament, Sylvia Bretschneider, passed away. Due to Heinz Müller's resignation from the mandate, Barlen moved up to the state parliament. In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2016 , Barlen was not elected to the state parliament either by direct election or by list .
