Julian Davies

Julian Charles Dutton Twiston Davies (born May 27, 1931 - November 14, 2013 ) was a British bassist and tuba player of traditional jazz .

Julian Davies, a younger brother of John RT Davies , has been collecting jazz records since childhood and was bassist in the Crane River Jazz Band led by Ken Colyer . After separating from the Colyer Band, Davies studied at Nottingham University to work full-time in a department of the Greater London Council for materials testing of buildings. In addition, he worked with Reunions of the Crane River Jazz Band until 1999 . In his later years he was chairman of the Ken Colyer Trust , which looked after the estate of Colyer's unpublished recordings and published his memoirs. He also taught at the Colfox School in Bridport and played with the Sunset Café Stompers , with whom the last recordings were made. In the field of jazz he was involved in 41 recording sessions between 1949 and 1998, in addition to Ken Colyer with Milton Batiste and The Jazz Crusade Revival Band (with Sammy Rimington ).
