Julian Günther-Schmidt (born September 13, 1994 in Pforzheim ) is a German soccer player . The striker is under contract with FC Carl Zeiss Jena , but is suspended there until the end of the 2019/20 season .

Career

Günther-Schmidt played in his youth for SV Büchenbronn , Germania Brötzingen , FC Nöttingen and SV Waldhof Mannheim before moving to Karlsruher SC in 2012 . In July 2013 he moved to FC Ingolstadt 04 , where he was to play in the second team . He made his debut in the Regionalliga Bayern on July 17, 2013 in the 1: 2 defeat against TSV Buchbach . He scored his first goals on July 11, 2014 in a 2-2 draw at FC Memmingen .

On November 29, 2014 Günther-Schmidt came on for the first time for the professional team in the 2nd Bundesliga when he came on for Mathew Leckie in the 90th minute in the 3-0 win in the home game against VfL Bochum . At the end of the season, the team rose as champions in the Bundesliga and Günther-Schmidt left the club.

In September 2015 he joined the second team of FC Augsburg , with whom he plays in the Regionalliga Bayern . On July 30, 2016, he scored one goal in the 12-0 home win against SV Seligenporten , the highest win in the history of the Regionalliga Bayern. On October 22, 2016, he played for the Augsburg first team for the first time and made his debut in the Bundesliga in the 1: 2 away defeat against SC Freiburg .

End of August 2017 Günther-Schmidt was by the end of the season 2017/18 to the third division side FC Carl Zeiss Jena awarded. In Jena he developed into a regular player and scored eight goals in 32 league appearances. In July 2018 Günther-Schmidt returned briefly to FC Augsburg and took part in the training camp in Mals for a few days . On July 6, 2018, he returned to FC Carl Zeiss Jena on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season and was finally signed for two years in the summer of 2019 without returning to Augsburg. The striker was regularly used and was a regular in the second half of the season, until the beginning of June 2020 he had scored 6 goals and assists in 27 compulsory games. After the 30th match day, however, he was suspended from play and training operations together with four other professionals .
