Julian Gbur SVD ( Ukrainian Юліян Ґбур ) (born November 14, 1942 in Brzezawa; † March 24, 2011 ) was a Polish bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Stryj .

Life

Julian Gbur joined the religious order of the Steyler Missionaries and was ordained a priest on June 21, 1970 by Archbishop Adam Kozłowiecki SJ .

On February 21, 1994 he was elected auxiliary bishop in Lviv by the Holy Synod . Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Bareta on March 30, 1994 and confirmed his election as auxiliary bishop in the Lviv Archeparchy of Ukrainians. The episcopal ordination on July 7, 1994 was donated to him by the Metropolitan of Lemberg, Myroslav Ivan Cardinal Lubachivsky ; Co- consecrators were Jan Martyniak , Bishop of Przemyśl and Philemon Kurchaba CSsR , Auxiliary Bishop in Lviv.

In 2000 he was appointed the first bishop of the newly founded Eparchy Stryj , the Greek Catholic Church of Ukraine united with Rome . Because of his health, the Holy See appointed Taras Senkiv as Apostolic Administrator ad nutum Sanctae Sedis in January 2010 .
