Julien De Smedt

Julien De Smedt (born December 3, 1975 in Brussels ) is a Belgian-Danish architect . Since 2006 he has been running the architecture firm Julien De Smedt Architects (JDS) with offices in Copenhagen , Brussels and Oslo . JDS is an interdisciplinary office for architecture, urban planning and design.

biography

After studying architecture in Brussels, Paris , Los Angeles and London , De Smedt graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture in London in 2000. He then worked for OMA and Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam , where he also met Bjarke Ingels .

In 2001 he founded the architecture firm PLOT in Copenhagen with Ingels. Despite the success of their collaboration with Bjarke Ingels, they parted ways in 2006 and De Smedt founded JDS, also based in Copenhagen. In 2007, JDS won the first major competition as an independent office with its contribution to the Holmenkollen ski jump in Oslo.
