Julien Pontvianne

Julien Pontvianne (* 1983 ) is a French jazz and improvisation musician ( saxophone , clarinet ) and composition .

Pontvianne studied saxophone and clarinet at the Conservatory of Noisiel and then at the CNSM Paris trained.

As a composer, Pontvianne draws on many musical traditions - from Renaissance masses to Indonesian gamelan to the music of Sonic Youth , Paul Motian and Morton Feldman - and is interested in dealing with "slowness" and exploring an area that can be compared with the “ecology of sound” by Gérard Grisey . He also works as an interpreter in his own groups such as the clarinet quartet WATT (with Antonin-Tri Hoang , Jean Dousteyssier, Jean-Brice Godet), the AUM Grand Ensemble or Abhra. He is one of the founding members of the collective and label Onze Heures Onze and plays in groups that cover various genres, from swing of the 1920s to modern jazz (as with the Maxime Fougères Trio on Guitar Reflections ), experimental rock to the repertoire of New music .
