Julius Baer
Julius Baer (born January 2, 1857 in Heidelsheim as Isaac Baer , † March 9, 1922 in Riehen ) was a German - Swiss banker .
Life
Julius Baer was the son of a moneylender and trader in animal skins. He attended the Jewish school in Heidelsheim and completed an apprenticeship at the August Gerstle banking house in Augsburg from 1883 to 1885 . From 1886 to 1896 he was a partner in the private bank Samuel Dukas & Co. in Basel . At the end of 1896 he became a partner in the Hirschhorn, Uhl & Bär bank in Zurich , which he took over in 1901 as Julius Bär & Co. Two of his three sons: Walter Jakob (1895–1970) and Werner (1899–1960), also worked for the company. Richard Josefwas a mathematician and physicist, he was the father of Hans Julius Baer .
Bär took a seat on the boards of directors of the Thunerseebahn , the Südostbahn and the Oerlikon machine works .
