Julius Grillo

Julius Grillo (born April 25, 1849 in Neumühl ; † March 19, 1911 in Düsseldorf ) was a German metallurgical engineer and entrepreneur who managed the Grillo works .

Life

Julius Grillo attended secondary school 1st order in Mülheim an der Ruhr from Easter 1861 and worked from September 1866 to April 1867 as a technical draftsman in the technical office of the Jacobi, Haniel & Huyssen ironworks in Sterkrade . After completing a practical preparatory course, he studied from Michaelis 1867 to Michaelis 1869 at the Clausthal Mining Academy . There he was a member of the "Verein zum lustigen Arschleder ", from which he founded the Corps Montania Clausthal on July 11, 1868 with three fellow students . In October 1869 he moved to the Bergakademie Freiberg , in 1870/71 he took part in the foot replacement battalion of the Westphalian Field Artillery Regiment No. 7 in the Franco-German War .

After the war, Grillo joined the family company in Oberhausen and initially headed technical development. For him, among other things, the development is a roaster for sphalerite and a new method for producing liquid anhydrous sulfur dioxide back, which he in him in Hamborn newly built zinc smelter introduced. After the death of his brother and his father's departure, Julius Grillo was the sole member of the board of directors of the Grillo-Werke. When the company was converted into a stock corporation in the 1880s , he took over the chairmanship of the board of directors . He received the honorary title of (Prussian) Commerce Councilor .

Grillo was a member of the council of the Hamborn community. He was also involved in industrial associations, charitable institutions and church organizations.
