Julius Silverman

Julius Silverman ( 8. December 1905 - 21st September 1996 ) was a British politician of the Labor Party . First he was a city ​​council member in Birmingham , later for many years a member of the lower house for Birmingham constituencies.

Silverman was born in Leeds . His father escaped anti-Jewish pogroms in Minsk . Julius attended Central High School in Leeds and initially worked as a warehouse worker . In 1931 he became a lawyer with Gray's Inn law firm in Birmingham. He served on Birmingham City Council from 1934 to 1945.

In the British general election of 1935 , Silverman took part in the Birmingham Moseley constituency . He was an MP for the Birmingham Erdington constituency from 1945 to 1955 and from 1974 to 1983 and in between for the Birmingham Aston constituency (1955–1974).

He was given honorary citizenship ( Freedom of the City ) of Birmingham in 1982 and the Indian Order of the Lotus ( Padma Bhushan ) in 1990. He died in Birmingham at the age of 90.
