Julius Wallot

Julius Wallot (born August 6, 1876 in Oppenheim , † March 31, 1960 in Waldenburg (Württemberg) ) was a German physicist.

Life

Wallot studied physics in Würzburg and at other universities. In 1899 he became an assistant to Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen . In 1902 he received his doctorate at Röntgen in Munich with the work The use of the Arago's wedge compensator for measuring the refraction exponents of liquids (a kind of Babinetscher compensator). From 1902 to 1904 or 1906 he was a lecturer at the Telegraph Research Office in Berlin under Karl Strecker . In 1909 he received his habilitation in physics in Stuttgart. In 1913 he went to the Clausthal mining academy , where he became professor of physics in 1921. From 1922 he worked in the central laboratory of Siemens & Halske Wernerwerke in Berlin until his retirement. From 1922 he created a notation for physical equations as size equations. From 1924 to 1928 he created the first comprehensive presentations of the quadrupole theory in essays .

In 1928 he was admitted as a private lecturer at the TH Berlin and in 1929 appointed as a non-civil servant professor. From 1929 he was head of the Electrotechnical Association (ETV) in Berlin. 1930 to 1955 he is also chairman of the committee for units and formula quantities (AEF). In 1932 he moved from Clausthal to the TH Berlin. In 1939 he gave up teaching at the TH Berlin “because of the reorganization of the situation among lecturers” of his own volition. In 1945 he retires. From 1946 to 1948 he lectured at the TH Karlsruhe , where he became honorary professor in 1947.

The terms numerical equation, size equation and tailored size equation go back to him and are dealt with in the standard DIN 1313 "Physical quantities and equations" (first edition 1931: "Notation of physical equations").
