List of apple varieties

Milwa is a cultivar of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ). The variety is also marketed as a club variety under the brand names Diwa (Switzerland) and Junami (European Union, USA). The apple was bred in Switzerland from the Idared , Maigold and Elstar varieties .

The variety has been grown in Germany since 2007. It is available for direct sale in Switzerland.

description

The medium-sized and spherical apples are evenly colored a bright red and have a smooth skin. The average weight of the apples is 160 grams. The taste is similar to Elstar , it is sweet with a slight acidity. The yellowish-white pulp is somewhat firmer than Elstar's. The apples are suitable as table apples and for juice.

The fruits have numerous small, light-colored lenticels that are sometimes slightly raised. The stem is short, the stem cavity is often rusted light brown .

The trees grow weaker than at Elstar and are generally more balanced. The growth type is slightly upright, slightly drooping when the harvest begins. The leaves are small.

history

Parent varieties are Idared , Maigold and Elstar . The trademark registration for Junami dates back to 2004, plant variety protection has existed since 2006. Control of the variety is exercised by the fruit marketer Inovafruit in the Netherlands. The variety has also been traded in the USA since 2012.

Cultivation

Milwa grows in warm and temperate climates. The diploid apples fertilize themselves. The tree has alternation . The red color begins early so that the apples look ripe when they are not yet. The harvest window is wide, the time is a few days before Golden Delicious. The yield is slightly below that of Golden Delicious and is therefore very high compared to most other apple varieties.

In the cold store, Milwa can be kept until the end of January, in the CA store until June.
