Jun Mitsuhashi

Driver Jun Mitsuhashi ( Japanese 三橋淳 Mitsuhashi June , born on 19th April 1932 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese entomologist , virologist , plant pathologist and professor emeritus of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and the Tokyo University of Agriculture .

Life

Mitsuhashi graduated from the University of Tokyo Agriculture Faculty with a Bachelor of Agriculture degree in 1955 . He then conducted research on endocrinology and cell cultures in insects at the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences . From 1962 to 1964 he worked with Karl Maramorosch at the Boyce Thompson Institute in Yonkers , New York . The stay in the United States was funded by the Japanese Agency of Science and Technology and the National Science Foundation . During this guest stay he developed the Mitsuhashi Maramorosch insect medium for the culture of grasshopper cells , which is still used today as a nutrient medium for cells of mosquitoes of the genus Aedes and other vectors of pathogens. In this medium, it was also possible to cultivate pathogenic viruses in the cells infected by them. In 1965 Mitsuhashi received his doctorate from the University of Tokyo as Doctor of Agriculture. In 1968 and 1969 he worked with TDC Grace in the Department of Entomology of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Canberra with cell cultures of insects.

In 1984 Mitsuhashi was appointed head of the Insect Pathology Laboratory at the Forestry and Forest Product Research Institute in Tsukuba . In 1988 he became Professor of Applied Entomology at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology . In 1996 he moved to the private agricultural university in Tokyo , where he retired in 2012.
