Katja Gronau (born 1969 in Guntersdorf ) is a German chief detective , a graduate in administration and a local politician . In September 2019 she became the first woman to be mayor of the central Hessian city ​​of Herborn .

Life

Katja Gronau completed an apprenticeship with the Hessian riot police and later switched to the criminal police . In 2002 she obtained a degree in administration. Since 2003 she has mainly dealt with fraud cases on the Internet and was in charge of the "Police Advice for Internet Crimes" department in the Central Hesse police headquarters . For years she did prevention work in lectures at schools and with events for adults and seniors.

On June 16, 2019, she ran as a non-party candidate in the mayoral election in Herborn and achieved 43.4% of a field of four candidates, Jörg Kring (also non-party) achieved 31.3%. In the runoff election on May 26, 2019, Gronau won with 68.7%, Kring received 31.4% of the vote. The turnout was 47.5%. Gronau was introduced to office on August 28, 2019 as the first female mayor of the city and as the successor to Hans Benner (SPD), taking office on September 14, 2019.
