The type CNTL 560 PS is a standard-gauge, three-axle wet steam tank locomotive ( wheel arrangement  C) from the post-war type program of the Arnold Jung locomotive factory in Jungenthal .

Design and probation

The approximately 560 PSi strong and 45 km / h fast type was designed for use in medium-heavy handover and shunting services on industrial and factory railways . According to the intended purpose with the high loads occurring there, the frame was made particularly strong. Although welding technology was already widespread in locomotive construction at the beginning of the 1950s, the boiler and frame were still made in the traditional rivet construction, only the driver's cab and storage container were welded. The locomotives were fitted with pressure compensation piston valves of the Müller type ex works. Machine no. 10853 (see below) was also equipped with a mixer preheater .

At the time, the staff praised both the smoothness and pulling power of the locomotives. The locomotive crews of the Westfalenhütte , where two of the 560 hp machines were running, were considered to be just as powerful as the four-couplers from Henschel and Krauss-Maffei used in parallel . When the locomotive No. 12037 (see below), which has been preserved in a museum, was used as a guest outside its main line, the Hespertalbahn , in the 1980s, however, it became apparent that the large cylinders quickly led to boiler exhaustion when driving quickly on the line.

Delivery and operator

Between 1950 and 1956 seven copies of the type were delivered to different operators; Since some of the locomotives were manufactured for stock without a customer order, the year of construction and delivery date differ considerably:

Serial no. Year of construction / delivery First owner
10852 1950 Deutsche Vacuum-Oil AG , Hamburg
10853 1950 Hoesch AG , Westfalenhütte, Dortmund
11566 1952 Preussag , Barsinghausen mine
11567 1952 Türkiye Damir ve Celik Fabrikalari Müessarsi (steel mill), Karabük
11568 1952 Hoesch AG, Westfalenhütte, Dortmund
12036 1954/1956 Hibernia AG , Herne
12037 1954/1956 Municipal electricity company Mark AG , Hagen

Preserved copies

The locomotive with the serial number 12037 is the only representative of its type that has survived. Since 1978 it has been owned by the Hespertalbahn e. V. in Essen-Kupferdreh , where she initially hauled the museum train until 2001. After the long shutdown time that followed and an extensive general inspection, the machine has been operational again since summer 2017 and is regularly used on the Hespertalbahn.
