The JCSU is a partner organization in Belarus for the Junge Union .

history

The organization was established in 1997 and officially registered by the Ministry of Justice of Belarus. Before the 2004 general election , the Belarus Supreme Court decided to dissolve the JCSU. The reason for this was an application from the Ministry of Justice due to formal errors. The real reason for the withdrawal of status is believed to be that the organization was one of the largest democratic youth movements registered in Belarus, as well as the participation of the members of the JCSU “Young Democrats” in the initiative groups of the opposition candidates and in the street demonstrations.

In 2002 the JCSU decided to cooperate with the "United Citizens' Party of Belarus" and to act as their youth organization. For seven years, the JCSU Young Democrats worked with the United Citizens' Party of Belarus. At the last congress on February 22, 2009, the majority of the delegates came to the decision that the organization can also carry out its activities independently of this party. Some members of JCSU "Young Democrats" rejected this decision and left the organization. They remained in the youth organization of the United Citizens' Party - Youth VBP, which still exists today.

At the 2009 Congress it was decided to support Alyaksandr Milinkevich as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Then another attempt was made by the members of the JCSU “Young Democrats” to regain the status of the officially registered organization. For this purpose, all necessary documents were made available to the Ministry of Justice. However, this was rejected by the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus did not revise this decision.
