Content profile

Principles

YEPP, founded in 1997, is the youth organization of the European People's Party (EPP), the union of the Christian Democratic and conservative parties in Europe. YEPP represents 51 national youth organizations with around 1.4 million members.

Political positions

The basic values of YEPP are freedom, the rule of law, a social market economy, a united Europe and subsidiarity. YEPP is committed to a Christian-Jewish Europe. The full membership of Turkey in the EU is rejected. In addition, YEPP would like to raise awareness of climate change in order to take care of future generations and their livelihoods now. Furthermore, YEPP recognizes the demographic development in Europe as a great challenge and thus tries to contribute to more intergenerational equity.

Inner structures

Structure / organs

Yepp is divided into three institutions: Congress (Congress) , Rat (Council) and Executive Board (Board) . The congress is the highest body of YEPP and takes place every two years. It's like a party congress. The Congress elects the Board of Directors, determines the political guidelines and the work plan of YEPP. The voters of the congress are composed of the members of the board and the delegates of the member organizations.

The council is the supreme body between the congresses and meets four times a year. The members of the council are, on the one hand, the members of the board, a delegate from one member organization and a representative from the observer organizations. The main tasks of the council are to formulate YEPP's political positions, decide which applicants will be granted observer status, make recommendations to Congress regarding applicants for full membership, and plan the budget.

The board is responsible for the daily political work and meets at least four times a year. The board of directors is composed of the president, a first vice-president, nine vice-presidents, a general secretary and a deputy general secretary. The members of the board may not be older than 35 years. The board is the executive body of YEPP. It implements the decisions of the council and congress, represents YEPP in other institutions and organizations, prepares council meetings and makes recommendations to the council and congress about the admission or exclusion of member and observer organizations.
