Political commitment

In comparison to many other Portuguese politicians, Pereira joined the Portuguese conservative Social Democrats (or their youth association JSD ) relatively late at the age of 20 . In April 2017 she was elected Vice-President at the Congress of the Youth of the European People's Party , and in 2018 as Chairwoman.

MPs

In February 2018, PSD party leader Rui Rio surprisingly proposed Lídia Pereira for second place on the European election list of the Portuguese Social Democrats, which was led by Paulo Rangel . Numerous media reported on the unexpected nomination, with which party leader Rui Rio wanted to bring more "freshness" to the party. Pereira himself was surprised by the high ranking.

In the European elections, the Social Democrats won around 22 percent of the votes cast and thus won six seats, one of which was Lídia Pereira. As in previous legislatures, the six MEPs joined the Group of the European People's Party (EPP). For her group, she is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and a deputy member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety .
