Christian Zoll (politician, 1993)

Christian Zoll (born May 25, 1993 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and lawyer . From 2015 to 2019, Zoll was one of the chairmen of the Federal Youth Representation , the legal representation of the interests of children and young people in Austria. Since the end of 2018 he has been one of the vice-presidents of the Youth of the European People's Party (YEPP).

Christian Zoll was born on May 25, 1993 in Dornbirn in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and grew up in the neighboring market town of Lustenau . There he also attended the Lustenau High School, where he graduated in 2011 . During his school days, Zoll was the school spokesman at the BG Lustenau and, from 2010, the state school spokesman for the general secondary schools in Vorarlberg. Subsequently, he completed his community service at the Lustenau branch of the Austrian Red Cross . At the beginning of the law studies at theLaw Faculty of the University of Vienna moved Zoll to Vienna . In April 2018 he graduated from the University of Vienna with the graduation of Magister Juris ( Mag. Iur. ), And then graduated from the judicial practice .

Christian Zoll has been working in the political office of the State Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Magnus Brunner , since January 2020 .

Political career

At the Young People's Party (JVP), the youth organization of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), Christian Zoll initially held positions in his home town of Lustenau. In 2015, he became one of the deputies of the then Federal Chairman Sebastian Kurz at the Federal Conference of the Young People's Party . Also in 2015, Zoll was elected by the General Assembly of the Federal Youth Representation as one of the chairmen in its four-person chairing team. The Federal Youth Representation is the legal representation of the interests of children and young people and young people up to the age of 30 in Austria, to which 53 children and youth organizations belong. In 2017 he was re-elected as BJV chairman for a new two-year term. From 2016 onwards, Zoll was also involved in the Youth of the European People's Party , the youth organization of the European People's Party . The delegates of the YEPP member organizations elected him Vice-President at the 12th YEPP Congress in Athens in November 2018 with 91% of the vote.

Shortly afterwards, in January 2019, both the Vorarlberg People's Party and the Young People's Party presented Christian Zoll as their respective top candidate for the European elections in Austria 2019 . Throughout Austria, Zoll took 9th place in the list for the ÖVP in the European Parliament election . In the election, Christian Zoll received 7,946 preferential votes nationwide and thus place 10 in the ÖVP-internal preferential vote ranking. After the mandates of the People's Party were awarded according to this preferential voting sequence, Zoll was unable to achieve any of the seven mandates of the ÖVP.

On January 23, 2020, Zoll was nominated by the Vorarlberg People's Party to replace Christine Schwarz-Fuchs as a substitute member in the Austrian Federal Council . Christian Zoll inherited Schwarz-Fuchs, who had previously been a substitute member for Magnus Brunner and, after his appointment as State Secretary at the beginning of January 2020, had moved to the Federal Council for Brunner. His election as Vorarlberg substitute member of the Federal Council took place in the state parliament session on February 5, 2020.
