The Young Press North Rhine-Westphalia e. V. (JPNW) (spelling : Junge Presse eV) is a self-organized, voluntary youth media association in Germany. The association , based in Essen, offers seminars, advice and the nationwide uniform youth press card . Young media makers between the ages of 12 and 27 can become members, even if they are not from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). JPNW is a member of the nationwide umbrella organization Jugendmedienzentrum Deutschland e. V. (jmz).
activities
The Junge Presse organizes 40 to 50 seminars and events nationwide every year. In its seminars, the Junge Presse imparts journalistic knowledge to young editors. School newspaper seminars are held that provide information on the basic issues such as financing, organization and legal issues for founding a school newspaper . Other topics include seminars on rhetoric, creative writing and application training.
YouthMediaEvent
Every year, the Junge Presse organizes the JugendMedienEvent, its largest event. For four days, up to 500 young people have the opportunity to get to know journalistic professions, to discuss current topics and to attend practical workshops for entry into the media industry.
German school newspaper award
The Junge Presse is the organizer of the German School Newspaper Award. The competition honors the best newspapers published by students from all over Germany that appear in a secondary school. In addition to the general competition, there are special prizes in various categories.
2006
More than 620 editorial offices took part in the 2006 German School Newspaper Competition. Patron was RTL's chief editor Peter Kloeppel , the award ceremony was held in the historic town hall of the city of Cologne instead.

- 2nd place: Luitbold from Luitbold Gymnasium, Munich
- 3rd place: SBZ from the Selm municipal high school
- Special Red Bull Air Race award : Felix Suppliet

2012
From around 700 applicants, the following were awarded:

- 1st place: Zündstoff from the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium in Ostfildern
- 2nd place: censored by the Donauwörth grammar school
- 3rd place: ZOOM from the Landschulheim Kempfenhausen
- Special online category: Lemon from Landfermann-Gymnasium , Duisburg
- Special category layout: ASPARAGUS from the Erich-Kästner-Gymnasium , Laatzen
- Special category cover picture: Herbert vom Hölderlin Gymnasium , Lauffen am Neckar
The four-member jury included Joachim Frank, chief correspondent of the Frankfurter Rundschau, Isolde Fugunt, head of studies at the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists, Hans-Martin Tillack, editor at stern.de and Leo Fischer, editor-in-chief of Titanic.

In 2014 the German School Newspaper Award will be announced again.
history
The association was founded in 1951 under the name JP NRW. On February 16, 1975 he went to the Junge Presse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. (JPNW) about. The seat of the association was Wuppertal.
Four years later, two more media associations were founded in North Rhine-Westphalia: On August 11, 1979 the Freie Jugendpresse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. (FJPNW) and on November 21 the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Junge Presse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. (AGJPNW). The clubs sometimes worked with each other, and they often competed. On January 22nd, 1994 the Freie Jugendpresse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. (FJPNW) dissolved again.
On October 5, 1998, the Junge Presse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Junge Presse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. (AGJPNW) to today's Junge Presse Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. (JPNW). The association is based in Essen.
