The Städtische Gymnasium Selm (SGS) is a public high school in Selm , North Rhine-Westphalia . It was founded in the summer of 1989 and is currently attended by around 700 schoolchildren from the three Selm districts and the neighboring communities . The SGS, along with two other secondary schools, is the only grammar school in Selm. It is located in the school center on Kreisstrasse.
Awards
European school
In April 2011 , the Selm municipal high school was certified as a " European school in North Rhine-Westphalia " for its European school program and corresponding activities in the school community such as school partnerships, foreign language offers, projects and discussion events .
Seal of approval for individual support
In February 2007 , NRW Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers awarded the municipal high school Selm as one of 22 schools in North Rhine-Westphalia the "Seal of Approval for Individual Support" from the Ministry for Schools and Further Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
School with courage
The SGS students and teachers have been involved in the project " School without Racism - School with Courage " for several years . Since 2004 the school bears the title of the campaign of the same name.
Partner schools
The Selm High School has three European and one Australian partner school , with which exchange programs and projects are carried out every year . The longest contact has been with the Stainburn School in Selmer's twin town Workington ( Great Britain ), which has been a partner school of SGS since 1994. The international contact is shaped in particular by numerous joint musical projects such as regular concert tours by school orchestras and other music groups. We have been in contact with Westbourne Grammar School in Melbourne, Australia, since 1998 . The Athénée Royal de l'Air Pur in the Belgian Seraing in Liege since 1999, partner school of Selmer School. Since 2009 there have also been contacts with Zespół Szkół in Wojakowa near Iwkowa, Poland .
School newspaper
From 1998 to 2009 , the school newspaper SBZ, which was awarded by Der Spiegel magazine, was published several times a year at the Selm municipal high school . Predecessor of the school newspaper were the mirror writing and Exklosiv (combination of exclusive and explosive). In 2016 the school founded an online newspaper, "PunktSZ".
