Young Symphony Orchestra Aachen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Young Symphony Orchestra Aachen e. V. (JSO) was founded in 1979 by students from the Cologne University of Music - Aachen location and Peter Sauerwein. Alongside the Collegium Musicum of RWTH Aachen , the Aachen University Salon Orchestra (ACHSO) and the Aachen Student Orchestra eV (ASO) it is the fourth orchestra for students in Aachen. In addition, the JSO is a member of Jeunesses Musicales Germany and of the Association of German Lovers' Orchestra. It should not be confused with the Aachen Youth Symphony Orchestra, founded by Walter Mengler in 1996 and with almost the same name .

Structure and organization

The JSO is made up of around 60 to 80 musicians, including schoolchildren, students and professionals from various fields. The repertoire includes works for chamber music as well as large symphonic works from the Viennese Classic , Romantic and Impressionist periods, as well as the large choral works. In addition, there are occasional appearances with chamber music ensembles.

The orchestra has been led by Peter Sauerwein since it was founded. The string rehearsals were conducted by the concertmasters of the Young Symphony Orchestra Julius Schwahn until 2002 and, from 2002, by the young student at the Cologne / Aachen University of Music, Till Mengler. It is financed by a support association , membership fees, donations and concert income .

Public concerts have been held two to three times a year since 1980. In addition, the orchestra received invitations to operetta productions and performances in the region and in neighboring countries. Concerts have already been performed in Liège , Maastricht , Luxembourg , Norderney , Kevelaer , Düsseldorf and Reims . The JSO has often been able to work with well-known soloists such as Kathrin ten Hagen , Sieglinde Schneider , Stefan Picard, Arnim Fromm, Lars Vogt or Alexis Vincent, but also with Wolfgang Karius and the Aachen Bach Society .
